Emo’Anga Tangi Ka’ara – The Battle of the Drums

Tangi Kaara – (Drumming Competition) This event showcases the creativity and the techniques of the Cook Islands drummers using
the traditional instruments and drums of our fore-fathers. The Tangi Kaara is a competition for not more than 10 members in each drumming group with 2 sections

Section 1: Rutu A-ru Pee (Drumming to the Chant)
Each group is given a chant which they drum to various composed beats to coincide with the chant.

Section 2: Rutu ‘Atu (Creative Drumbeats)
This section gives the drummers the opportunity where each group comes up with their own composed unique beats using the Cook Islands
traditional drumming techniques and the use of percussion instruments to enhance the sound
