National Dancer of the Year

Te Mire Ura (National Dancer of the Year Competition) is an event designed to encourage, develop and provide a platform for Cook Island Residents to show case their ‘Ura’ talents and skills for the purpose of enhancing and growing our Cook Islands Culture.

As Cook Islander’s we have creativity running through our veins. The ‘choreography’ needed to showcase the dramatic vibrant yet elegant hip movements in a timely manner is only one aspect of the entire production of a Cook Island dancer.

Te Mire Ura is 1 competition that Cook Island performers can truly showcase their individual skills in both the slow and fast beats, along with their ever so vibrant costume design skills.

The competition is held annually during the month of April and May in the following 7 Categories:

  1. Juniors (Ages 10yrs – under 14yrs)
  2. Intermediates (Ages 14yrs – under 17yrs)
  3. Seniors (Ages 17yrs +)
  4. Experts (Ages 30yrs – 45yrs)
  5. Masters (46yrs – 59yrs)
  6. Golden Oldies (60yrs +)
  7. Expats (Foreign Residents)
