In 2003, the Reo Maori Act was passed in Parliament.  This established Te Reo Maori as an Official Language of the Cook Islands.

The Reo Maori Division acts as secretariat to the “Kopapa Reo Maori” and is responsible for ensuring the status of Te Reo Maori is equal to that of English through its programs.
